Corroded Iron, Paper Lace Doilies, Silver

This series of work is a natural exploration with two totally different materials, which, when arranged together achieve an indelible harmony. I paired paper doilies with corroded iron in order to build an equal partnership between lightness and weight.

Unexpectedly, both have ephemeral aspects. The iron mass converts entirely to rust and disintegrates, leaving a surface rust that is flaky and friable. In contrast the paper doily with its pure white, delicate character becomes dirty and spoiled through its interaction with the iron. Through this work I wanted to show that the “good” becomes indistinguishable from the “bad” with the passage of time.
